Haida Art Immortalized in Titanium, Gold & Silver

In June 2004, master sculptor José de Braga completed one of his last great collaborations — a pen steeped in the visual language of the Haida people, one of the Pacific Northwest's most celebrated artistic traditions. Rich with symbolism, spiritual depth, and extraordinary craftsmanship, this pen is both a writing instrument and a cultural artifact.

Haida Art Throughout

Every surface of this pen speaks the Haida visual language. De Braga's hand-carved and sculpted sterling silver overlays bring the iconic formline designs of Haida art to life — the bold, flowing lines, the watchful eyes of ancestral beings, the interlocking creatures that define one of the world's most distinctive artistic traditions. The lustre of sterling silver lends the carving a luminous, almost ceremonial quality, executed with the precision and reverence the subject demands.

The Clip: Solid 18K Gold Totem Pole

Rising from the cap is a solid 18K gold totem pole clip — a sculptural centrepiece that anchors the pen's identity. Stacked with the figures and faces of Haida tradition, it is at once a functional element and a standalone work of art. The warmth of solid gold plays beautifully against the cool gleam of the sterling silver overlays below.

The Nib: Custom Engraved 18K Gold, Medium

The writing experience is defined by a custom-engraved 18K gold medium nib, its surface adorned with Haida-inspired engraving that carries the pen's artistic theme through to its very tip. Smooth, expressive, and beautifully weighted, it writes as beautifully as it looks.

Provenance

Completed by José de Braga in June 2004, De Braga's work is increasingly rare and deeply sought after by collectors who understand that his pieces represent an irreplaceable body of art. This collaboration stands among his most culturally resonant works.
